Program Details

  • Our heart at Calvary Kids is to provide a well-rounded, nurturing, developmentally appropriate enrichment program that emphasizes creativity and curiosity. We believe children learn through doing, through play, and through meaningful interactions with others.

We recognize that parents are children’s first teachers. We desire to partner with families, inviting parents/grandparents and siblings to join us for part of all of our days. We strive to create a home-like environment for children to attempt challenges, laugh, create, and develop strong bonds with peers, families, and teachers.

We also enjoy taking the classroom into other parts of the island, going on Nature Days at Linde Park and field trips, and holding several family events throughout the year.

Our curriculum is based on the Charlotte Mason educational philosophy. As such, it is rich in literature, music, art, dramatic play, movement, science and nature, social interaction, and outdoor play. We desire to expose children to a wealth of ideas and foster their wonder of the world.

We understand that children develop academically at different paces. Although we gently introduce pre-literacy and math skills in ways that are developmentally appropriate and play-based, we feel that the best way to learn at this age is through real-life experience.

We also feel that social, physical, and emotional well-being are at the heart of preschool education. We work to encourage empathy and cooperation, problem-solving, independent self-help skills, gross and fine motor development, and emotional regulation. Once again, these skills are a natural part of our day, as we work, play, socialize, create, and think together.

    A typical day includes:

β€’ Free choice activities, such as block building, dramatic play, sensory table, puzzles, and books

β€’ Group times, including stories, games, music, poems, movement, experiments, and discussions

β€’ Thematic activities, including art, science, and literature-based projects

β€’ Outdoor time, with water and sand play, gross motor movement, gardening, and creative games

    β€’ Group snack time

β€’ Opportunities to learn academic skills through games and activities

Finally, as a faith-based Christian ministry, we share the love of Jesus Christ with children in practical ways. We pray before snack, read Bible stories regularly and discuss concepts, and incorporate Bible verses and songs into our days. Mostly, we love the children and allow our faith and values to guide interactions and conversations.

  • We accept children who are three by August 31st of the school year, through 6 years old (kindergarten age). Children must also be fully toilet trained. We accept 12 children, and will maintain a waitlist for students for the current year.

  • Our classes are on Tuesdays and Thursdays mornings, from Labor Day to Memorial Day. We are closed for all major holidays and district school breaks/closures.

  • Calvary Kids Preschool is a ministry of Calvary San Juan; therefore, we do not charge a definitive tuition; A $250 per month (Sept-May) donation is suggested to cover expenses for the program, including teacher salaries, insurance costs, program expenses, etc. We also provide snack.

Jesus said, β€œLet the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
